SAMURAI: Sunrise, Sunset features some 100 objects related to the legendary samurai warriors drawn from the rich and varied Japanese collection of the Museo Stibbert of Florence, Italy.
Following successful North American tours of our Samurai exhibition in 2014 through 2017, a new tour was successfully launched in Mobile, Alabama in 2024 and completed in Spokane, Washington. The objects presented include full suits of samurai armor, helmets, swords, swordguards, and saddles, as well as objects intended for more personal use such as lacquered boxes, incense trays, and delicate vases. These objects characterize the period from 1185 – 1868 in which Japan was ruled by the samurai military class and their ethos and tastes pervaded all aspects of society.
