The extraordinary and large-scale exhibition Gladiators, Heroes of the Colosseum is the first international exhibition illustrating the compelling and fascinating world of Gladiators, the heroes of the ancient arenas.
Developed in partnership with Expona, and curated by Rossella Rea, former Director of the Colosseum, the exhibition features original artifacts from the Colosseum never before exhibited outside of Italy in addition to numerous loans of related archaeological objects, now conserved in the most prestigious museums of Italy such as the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, the Archaeological Park of Paestum – just to mention a few.
Original artworks are combined with modern replicas based on rigorous scientific documentation, cutting-edge interactive technology, suggestive graphics and numerous multimedia devices and applications.
From 2013 the Gladiators travelled to: Germany, Liechtenstein, Finland, Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, USA, having enormous success and bringing together thousands of visitors. The last European tour saw the engagement of more than 550.000 visitors in 4 venues.
The exhibition was developed in two different editions. One for small to mid-sized institutions of max. 500 sqm with ca. 100 original objects, and one for large institutions until 1000 sqm, with more than 100 original objects.
